For toddlers

Two and three year olds do best with big shapes and few details, so every animal here is one big shape with only a few parts to color. Give them chunky crayons and tape the page to the table so it does not slide. Name the animal and its sound together while they color: the cow says moo, the lion roars.

For preschool and kindergarten

Older children can copy the name at the top under the picture and add their own details: spots on the cow, a mane on the lion, water around the whale, plates on the dinosaur's back. Print only the pages you need; each animal is on its own page.

Ideas for using them

Sort the finished pages into farm, zoo, sea and pets on the wall. Read an animal picture book, then color the animals from the story. At daycare, give each child a different animal and make a class zoo. These pages have no holiday on them, so they work any week of the year.
